In our family's opinion Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels is the best water park in the country. Galveston’s Schlitterbahn isn’t there yet. But, they have added several more features and it is a lot easier to drive to if you live anywhere near Houston. Expect to spend time in traffic on weekends and during the summer.

To avoid the crowds, get there early, leave during the middle of the day, then come back several hours later. If you have a place to stay in Surfside Beach or Galveston, you might find a Two-day pass worthwhile.

Costs:
  • $35.99 + tax for adults (12 and older count as adults)
  • $28.99 + tax for kids (3-11) and seniors (55+)
  • Two-day passes cost $19 more for adults and $15 more for kids
  • Season passes make sense if you are going to visit four or more times


    • Nice touch:
    You can bring an ice chest into the park. This can save quite a bit of money. They will inspect the chest to be sure you don't have any glass or alcohol.

    Directions:
    From Surfside Beach take Blue Water Highway east to the San Luis Bridge. Cross the bridge onto Galveston Island. Blue Water Highway becomes San Luis Pass Road. This becomes Seawall Boulevard. When you come to 81st Street, turn left. This takes you directly to Schlitterbahn at 2026 Lockheed Street.

    It is 36 miles from Surfside Beach to Schlitterbahn. Most of the drive is along the coast and quite scenic.
