Near Houston, Texas

When you rent a Galveston beach house you are only 50 miles from Houston.

You won’t need much gas, and you won’t have to wait in long lines at the airport.

Galveston is the second easiest beach to get to. The easiest? Surfside Beach.

Time-wise, Surfside is the closest beach to Houston.

Galveston Beach House vs. a Surfside Beach House

  1. Surfside has much less traffic than Galveston.

  2. A very nice beach house in Surfside will cost less to rent than an equally nice beach house in Galveston. Plus,

  3. Hotel/motel taxes are 50% less for a Surfside beach house than for a Galveston beach house.

    1. These taxes are “only” 10% in Surfside Beach. They are 15% in Galveston.

    2. This can add up to more than a few dollars. For example, if you rent a Galveston beach house for $899 you will pay a tax of $134.85. If the house is in Surfside, your tax would be $89.90.

  4. If you want to take advantage of the fewer cars and lower cost of Surfside, but you want to be closer to Galveston, there is an attractive compromise – Treasure Island.

    Treasure Island is a small beach community on the Surfside Beach side of the San Luis Pass Bridge. It benefits from Surfside’s lower taxes (the Hotel/Motel tax you pay is 50% less) but is ten miles closer to Galveston.
